Such a strong-willed individual never has
graced Australia’s dance world, apart from Emily Yuen. Talented in… well,
everything, she has quickly become an international star.
Her talents range from dancing, to acting,
to modelling, to writing, and the list goes on.
But when the time comes and you have to
choose a career direction – of course you choose what you are best at. And so,
Emily Yuen has been working her ass off to get where she is in the
international dance industry.
However, other highlights of her talent
include working as an assistant creative director at Motif Dance Productions,
as well as a freelance fashion styling assistant to Olivia Waugh, Nicki
Colbran, and Pip Vassett. But when you have as much beauty as Yuen, you have to
get out there and model too. She has done numerous shoots (many she claims were
for friends), and runway shows, to add to her resume.
The biggest highlight of her career
involved a performance to an Imogen Heap song in the Locreado Dance Company
season show of 2011. She says it has always been a personal goal of hers to
perform it – and boy did she kill it!
She looks to Mia Michaels as an idol, who
also happens to be her favorite choreographer. Inspired by her Cirque du
Soleil work, Yuen was inspired by a ‘whole new world of skill and emotion’
within performance, that she feels has dramatically shaped her own skills. Yuen
believes this is the most important skill for any dancer, regardless of their
strengths, physically. Yuen’s personality makes her stand out more
than other performers on the Australian scene. Currently, Emily Yuen is preparing to leave
for her adventures in the United States, following her dreams to continue her
career as a performer.
